The Lagos State Police Department has officially announced the conclusion of the autopsy conducted on the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this development in a post on his X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night. However, they are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy.
In his statement, SP Benjamin Hundeyin mentioned, “Autopsy has been concluded. Awaiting result…”
Prior to this, the Lagos State Police Command had exhumed Mohbad’s remains to facilitate the autopsy. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed that the autopsy has already commenced as part of efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the young artist’s tragic demise.
Additionally, the police have apprehended the nurse who treated Mohbad prior to his death.
To thoroughly investigate Mohbad’s death, the Lagos State Police Command had previously established a special investigative team. This team has been tasked with submitting an interim report within two weeks. Their mission is to “unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim, identify witnesses, culprits if any, and any person that will be helpful to the investigative process.” They will employ various processes and technological tools in line with the relevant provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and State Laws.
Mohbad, a 27-year-old singer who was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records, passed away last Tuesday. His untimely death sparked outrage among his fans, who took to the streets in Lagos, Ogun States, and other parts of the country, demanding justice and urging the police to apprehend those responsible.
Following Mohbad’s demise, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun ordered a forensic investigation to determine the cause of his death.
Responding to public outcry, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State invited the Department of State Services (DSS) to collaborate in the ongoing probe.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reassured the public, saying, “I would like to assure everyone that I am not oblivious to the sad passing of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Imole Aloba (Mohbad). We have been closely working behind the scenes with relevant authorities and keenly following the ongoing investigations.”
He further emphasized his commitment to a thorough investigation, involving inter-agency collaboration and the use of advanced technology to uncover the truth. He also urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
The investigation into the tragic death of Mohbad continues, as authorities strive to bring justice to the late singer and his grieving fans.
